I am running a business over 3 years not maintaining proper books and accounting software. Please advice how to maintain proper book of accounts and accounting software?
As a business owner, a basic knowledge of accounting is essential. You need to learn how to tell whether or not your business is doing well.
First, I suggest buying a basic accounting book. There are many texts available, I’d get any old college or high school book. I am sure they are cheap.
As for accounting software, sure quickbooks would be fine. Get yourself an old version: no need for the 2008 version just yet.
But again, you need to learn about how accounting works.

QuickBooks and Peachtree are the biggies for small businesses. You should also be familiar with Word and Excel.
Most others a company will train you on if necessary.

Go for Quick Books — it is fairly simple to use, and gives you all the information you should need. It is expandable so that it can grow as your business grows. Your Accountant should be able to help you set it up with no flaws. But even if you don't have an accountant, it is simple to set up and use.

I'm start my own webstore from my home..I'm looking for the simpliest,most accurate, user friendly and most inexpensive accounting software possible…I have Windows XP Home Edition.
Quickbooks is excellent, and I would always recommend it first to businesses that have complex data entry, but it runs from $100-300. If you are looking for something cheaper and just as easy, check out Quicken (the little brother of Quickbooks and made by the same company). You can get the business program for $50…and it is compatible with most bank accounts. That means, you can download your bank account information directly into Quicken from your online account and save tons of data entry time. More banks do this for Quicken then for Quickbooks and it is fairly easy to use. It will also download into TurboTax at the end of the year to help you with your taxes.

Aren't software projects bedevilled by the lack of proper tools ?
(Good tools are initially ordered, but somehow they are replaced by less useful tools, and quality and progress continue to fall off).
There would exist superb accounting software.
That accounting software would be able to capture audit trails of all changes to experimental and operational software.
So why not use the accounting software as the main development tool ?
Prototypal accounting software is not facilitated for the purpose of mass regeneration simply because the prevailing administrators do not seek to enhance accountancy or such software packages. The product is undeniably bedevilled simply for the purposes of retaining the rights to the system in enclosure and beyond attainability.
Sadly whether a higher power has other intentions or the administrators handling the system seek to oppress the software to ensure their own survival is the greater probability. The accountancy software eliminates all inferior products and is an excellent universal stabiliser. Forces profiteering from the mass marketed products would undoubtedly lose business with diminished profit margins should this software be released for general issue.
The accounting software is indubitably the main and original expansion tool.
