The Crossroads Benefit

When Eric Clapton staged a concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden to benefit Crossroads Centre (his drug and alcohol rehab center in Antigua, British West Indies), a formidable array of musical talent joined him: Sheryl Crow, Bob Dylan, David Sanborn and Mary J. Blige. Highlights of the 1999 concert include the Clapton standards “Layla” and “Tears in Heaven” as well as “River of Tears,” “Old Love” and a “Crossroads” duet with Dylan.

My best friend is a self-confessed alcohol dependent for over two years now. He really wants to change for the better and we both agreed that he should enter a rehab center. The catch is that he doesn't have the money and so do I. Does anyone know of an affordable one?

Define 'affordable', I doubt there will be any that fall into your range as 'rehab' is an optional treatment, not a required thing. Not trying to sound harsh as we all screw up but, people that get addicted to whatever substance, made the CHOICE to start it knowing that the possibility of addiction exists. Therefore rehab is not something 'medically necessary', thus the reason many insurances do not cover it, and rightly so in my opinion.

Many people have the mistaken idea that they can just check into rehab and all their problems will go away, no more cravings, no more stress, ect ect, just take some pill and follow some diet and no more addiction. When you get back into real life around those same things/people/circumstances that fed the addiction, they won't affect you anymore. Well, life don't work that way. (think Lindsy Lohan :P )

There are TONS of AA groups, he needs to find one and go. If you really want to support him go with him and help him out in the day to day stuff.

I want to find an alcohol rehab for my son. He's really addicted to alcohol, and I hate seeing him this way. I really want him to get better.

You can always check out the yellow pages. There'll surely be a list there of the alcohol rehabs near your place. Just ask around and inquire to pick the right one for your son. It would also be a good idea to go to a doctor and ask for recommendations. I hope your son recovers soon. Good luck!

My best friend lives there. She has already agreed to the prospect of treatment, but she never gets around to finding an alcohol rehab for herself. I figured I might as well help, even though I'm many miles away. Any suggestions on how I can do this?

The internet can help you with this. The links I've included below contain information that you can use. These might be able to help you in your search. Looking through the yellow pages can also help. Just make sure to call up the rehabs and ask about their treatment options, etc. Good luck and I hope your best friend gets around to getting herself admitted into an alcohol rehab soon.

I'm a New Yorker and I want to find a nearby alcohol rehab center. I have to make an appointment with the supervisors there because I want to conduct interviews for my assignment. I have to talk to people undergoing treatment and to people facilitating the treatments. Thanks for the help.

It's nice to know that you're really exerting efforts to make a good assignment. I've listed websites where you can find a list of rehabs in New York. Good luck with the interview and just make sure to be careful with the questions you're asking.

Dry, A Memoir

You may not know it, but you’ve met Augusten Burroughs. He’s a regular guy but, when two drinks become twelve on a regular basis, he is forced into rehab. This is his story, of the reality of facing up to being an alcoholic, and of trying to return to the life he once knew - without alcohol.

For the past few months, I noticed that my son always went home late. I would usually wake up in the middle of the night to check on him, only to find out that he was not on his bed yet. Before I'd go to the office, I'd also go to his room to say goodbye but he would still be asleep. Since I was frequently busy, I hardly find time to talk to him. Just recently, I've learned that he is has become addicted to alcohol. My son is just 16 years old, I need to bring him to the rehab.

I want to submit my dad into an alcohol facility because he's already hurting me and my family. We can't do anything to stop him. The only way I know is through alcohol rehab. Where can I find one?

It looks like your dad has a severe alcohol problem. You are right, the best thing to do is to get him admitted to an alcohol rehab. Access the sites I posted in here. Not only will you find a facility for your dad, but you can also get more information about alcoholism.

I know of a friend who has been suffering from chronic alcoholism for quite some time. I opened up the idea of treatment to him and he found the idea very welcoming and asked me to ask around for an alcohol rehab nearby.

Well, make sure you call and check a few out… (they need to have availability). Where are you from? Alcohol is so hard to detox from… Worse than heroin…
