Home > avis car hire

I am considering pre-booking with ryan air who are agents for a large company avis or hertz I cant remember which, but am slightly nervous about 'hidden extras' and large deposits after some news reports on scams last week.

I read the terms and conditions on ryan air website but was even more confused when I finished.

Has anybody had any experience with hiring a car this way?

BTW I am staying outside Rome and know about the city driving limitations, we just wanted to hire a car so we can get about outside the city.

As an independant travel agent I would really advise you book a car hire direct from Avis/Hertz rather than through Ryan Air.
Those two car hire companies are good and reliable and their websites are great for booking on, easy/safe etc.
Just make sure you don't book extras you don't need such as baby seats etc.

if you think about it, ryanair will charge you more than booking direct with Hertz/avis as they will want an extra fee for actually booking/arranging it for you.
Oh and if you book direct with hertz/avis you usually either pay it all on your Credit card at time of booking or you pay locally when you go to pick up the car. It depends on when you make the booking ie. if you make it the day befpre you want the car you will probably have to pay locally.
Make sure you take a credit card in your name and all parts of your driving license when you pick up the car or they wont give it you!

Car hire in UK for over-75's?

Archived in the category: avis car hire

My widowed neighbour (here in Ireland) is from Birmingham and flies back there to see family and friends regularly. She turned 75 this year, is fit as a flea and drives every day. She used to hire a car at Brum airport but was told by the company (Hertz or Avis, I guess) that she can't now because of her age.

I can't believe there's not some company that will rent to her.
Does anyone know of one please? Thanks a mil.

There are lots of Company's they are called TAXIS….. If she wants to drive BUY ONE , you can get an old banger for less than the higher charge, so I don't see your problem…

Why don't you lend her YOUR car ????????
Oh you can't can you,,,, at her age she mite have a crash !!!!!

Classic car hire in LA?

Archived in the category: avis car hire

Are there any car companies who hire classic cars or nice convertibles to do a one way drive from LA to Vegas?
All the usuals (Avis, NationalCar) seem to have convertibles, but I dread ending up with a PT Cruiser convertible or something like that. I could live with a Mustang convertible, but would prefer an older one. Maybe there is a smaller hire company that does it that I can't find on a search engine?
Any ideas?

Beverly Hills Rent-A-Car has many locations throughout the LA area. I rented a Porsche Boxster from their Newport Beach location for a 3-day weekend back in 2000. Their prices have gone up considerably since then, from about $100/day to $200/day. Also, my rental only included 75 free miles/day, and since they don't have a Las Vegas location, I doubt a one-way rental is possible.

But check out some of the classic 1970's convertibles they have available ($400/day and up):

CAR HIRE whats the cheapest?

Archived in the category: avis car hire

can anyone tell me the cheapest worldwide car hire
im going to South Africa
have tried avis, budget and hertz and they are no way the cheapest

The best thing to do in this case is talk with a travel agent when you get there and/or someone you know that's from SA, they usually have family member who would like to make money and are willing to be your drive for as long as you want (When I was in London, my friend and I were going to Ghana, there, in a department store I was talking to a sales clerk and found out she was from Ghana and have relatives there and was willing to contact them for me, so that they could pick us up and drive us to places that we wanted to go). You have to set price, but be fair and length of time you want them for, this way they know exactly how much and how long they're going to get….of course you should always tip them at the end of the day, this way they'll treat you right….and never never be rude to them…you don't want to find yourself in the middle of nowhere…

Good luck

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone that answered my question the other day with regards to hiring a car in Spain without a credit card.I have since discovered that a car hire company called Avis have recently changed their policies. They now accept debit cards in the name of the hirer/driving licence/card holder, so you can hire a car in Spain with a debit card. They saved my life, as now I can enjoy my weeks holidays and Formula 1 experience, next week, with the comfort of a car. Again thank you to everyone that answered my original question.

good to know ,thanks for that .have a great time you lucky sod ….LOL!!!!!!!!!!! any room for a small one ???
